I love this!!! Great job Harvey. I love it coming from Uni! I used to run the Reading program at UCHS back in the day. You have a couple thousand books to give away to catch up to me.
I LOVE THIS IDEA! I have been doing "Random Acts of Literacy" (Love the title!) on and off, mostly in my church and community. I will be doing more of them and more often since I read your email. In church on Sunday, I "lightheartedly" reprimanded a mother about giving her 7 year old daughter and two other girls bubble gum during the service. I could even smell the gum. I had just spoken to her son who was serving as an acolyte about chewing gum while doing his service When I was "lightheartedly" reprimanding the mother, I told her what I had said to her son and she stated that he knew better, and also told me that she did anything during the service to keep the kids quiet and the bubble gum really helped. Thanks for your email! I have many children's books, some with bible themes, and will now take them to Sunday service. If I run out of books, I know that I will have many resources to get more; I will involve my church family. Many thanks!
I LOVE this idea!!! I am sharing with my staff and hope to report back some great things! Thanks for this wonderful idea...
What a great idea to give away kid's books in hopes of getting kids to read! My wife and I sent about 8 boxes to a school in LA.
I encourage my "adult" students to read to their children as often as possible. I explain to them that reading is the best gift that they can give to their children. I often give out books for children as a prize, or reward for effort in class. You have started an outstanding outreach to children, who may never have someone read to them. I will be carrying a selection of books to give out to parents. Thanks!
Love it! just sent it out to a bunch of folks!
I ride SEPTA everyday to and from work. I read on the bus most of my commute. I see vry young children with either their moms or dads of all nationalities. Somnetimes when they are crying I wish I had a lollipop or a cookie with me to give but I don't think it would be appreceiated especailly if the children are not allowed sweets. I think giving books is a fabulous idea. I'm single so I don't have any children's books but I will this weekend and give it a try.
Thanks for the great idea. I will start a collection box of younger childhood book donations in the library. Hundreds of weeded old books in need of dusting are free to take from room 107.
